Service Providers | Education Program
Educational attainment and career awareness is highly encouraged by the Teen Family Centre as we work towards minimising the barriers to education and training for young parents. Education is seen as a way for a family to enhance their future prospects by providing economic independence as well as improving psychosocial, health and life skills outcomes.
The implications that young families face due to a lack of education can have short and long term affects therefore we work closely with external agencies, high schools and other educational institutions to create a plan to prevent disadvantage a young parent may encounter. Parent Support Workers are able to support families in locating an appropriate learning environment and can assist with applying for benefits for returning to education and/or training. The Teen Family Centre and Balga Senior High School can also offer young parents child care and support whilst completing their secondary education (see Young Parents Program).
